Raised On Radio

I started my professional career behind a microphone at the at age of 17 when I was offered the gig as a week-end DJ for a local radio station in my home state of Minnesota. I was bitten by the radio bug. After high school I attended Brown Institute for Broadcasting in Minneapolis where I became a certified radio broadcaster. Over the next ten yours I worked on the air at various radio stations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

I found I had a passion for the production side of the business and chose to focus my talents on copywriting and producing commercials, taking on the position of Copy Director early in my radio career.

I loved performing behind the mic, but still felt something was missing. I returned to college to pursue my degree and graduated with a BA in Theatre Arts-Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

On Air To On Stage

After college, I decided to join the corporate ranks as a training specialist for sales and marketing teams. These positions allowed me to blend my skills of performance, writing and teacher, which became invaluable later as a narration and eLearning voice talent. Along with my copywriting background, I was also able to expand my writing skills to include training materials and eLearning course content.

Reinvention In The Digital Age

With the start of the 21st Century, the economy was shifting. Positions in training and marketing were considered an expense, not an investment. The first layoff came in 2001, the second one in 2006. It was time to make a change and reinvent myself in this new economy. I launched my marketing consultancy and dove headfirst into the digital age. I took all I knew as a traditional marketing professional and merged it with this new way of reaching consumers; blogging, social media, content marketing.

Back Behind The Mic…On My Terms

But something was missing. I started my career behind a microphone and it was time to get back there, but now on my terms. I launched my first podcast in 2009 and after dabbling a bit in voiceover projects over the years, got my first set of professional demos recorded.

Today I specialize in commercial, narration and eLearning voiceover. I host my own podcast, Content Marketing NEXT and assist in the production of various podcasts as the Podcast Network Director for Content Marketing Institute. If my clients need help in writing copy or narration materials, I assist with that as well. I currently live in Southern California and can come to your studio here in SoCal or record projects from my professional personal studio. I can connect via Skype, ISDN or SourceConnect.

I have transitioned from analog to digital and am right back where I belong: behind the mic.
